Telle serait l'éthymologie du nom de notre village :
Commanster en allemand se dit Gomels.
Or Gomels se décomposerait comme suit :
gom = vallée ; els (teuton) = aulne,
d'où vallée aux aulnes.

Par contre, en français, Commanster signifierait :
habitation sur l'eau de la vallée.
En effet : gom = vallée ; han ou an = habitation ;
ser ou staer (celte) = rivière.
D'où habitation sur l'eau de la rivière.
